Re: What foods/diet

A rotation of good grain-free kibbles with limited phytoestrogens (peas, flax, lentils, etc). Right now, that's Victor, Canidae Pure, and Sport Dog Food Elite. Although I did have to grab a bag of Nature's Variety Instinct chicken off Chewy because it was a little more than a dollar a pound. :wow

Re: Flirt pole advise

Keep your flirtpole going along the ground rather than up in the air and don't let him work himself to exhaustion. Spend part of your time teaching him "out," and also teaching him to sit or down before he goes after it, that way you're breaking up the intense part of the exercise with som...

Re: Best way to get out the Last watet before Show ?

I am still mastering the sensible dry-out, but here is what I've been doing. A few days before the show I start to cut the water back to just enough to cover the bottom of the bowl, and I add a little bit of water to the food. (We don't do intense workouts during this time.) During the last few days...

Re: My dog isn't aggressive, but gets very rough during playtime.

Playing rough can be very characteristic of Pit Bulls. They thrive on the intense physical contact, and I know a lot of other dogs can't really handle it. I can't recommend a way to teach her to play more gently, so what I would suggest is just to spend a lot of time working on her recall so you can...

Re: Gentle collar for a senstive neck

Sometimes you can score a good leather, skin-lined collar at a retail joint. Both of my dogs are wearing 1/2" leather lined with deerskin, and I got them at Petsmart on clearance. I've gotten others similar to that at feed stores and and local retail chains (like Souther Agriculture in Tulsa, O...

Re: Male pit bull very anxious around female pit bull.

Although some males just never get the clue that a female is not going to "come in." Or possibly he is scenting another female in the area and choosing to take it out on your girl. It happens. I wont rib you for keeping him with what he came with. But intact males can be really irritating....

Re: how much do you feed your dog per feeding?

Loki gets around 2/3 cup twice daily. 8 years old, sedentary, mid-high 40s.
Terra gets a fat cup twice daily. 5 years old, moderately active, 45 lbs.
In the evening, I might mix in a spoon or two of canned.

Re: how many of you have dogs that fight ?

In my experience, the first fight is not necessarily the really bad one, unless you have horrible luck or aren't there to break it up. The dogs get better at throwing down the more it happens. Sometimes the first time it all goes bad, it seems to be as much of a surprise to the dogs as it is to the ...

Re: how many of you have dogs that fight ?

Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. my dogs got along well for the first year of Terra's life. But once it was over, it was over. And no going back on my commitment to love and care for any of my dogs because they were suddenly far less convenient.

Re: Help Crazy Woman next door

If this neighbor is persistently throwing meat and you had a dog die in your yard, I would be far more concerned that she is throwing them something toxic than her possibly causing food aggression. Next time she throws the meat -- if you can -- grab it and get it tested for poison. She MAY just be b...

Re: Flexi Leads...whats soo bad about em?

I use a flexi to potty Terra in the morning so I don't have to step off the porch while I'm in the middle of getting ready for work. And they're good for potting at dog shows and on road trips. I think a lot of people exercise poor judgment in when to use them. Like a lady the other day browsing at ...

Re: That time of year again; Goals for 2012

Thanks for digging up last year's thread! I'm comforted to know that I met all of my goals except for the UWPCH on Terra. Superman got housebroken. He also got two comp wins towards his UKC CH. Terra is UKC/ADBA CH. Loki is UCDX Loki, and Terra is URO1 Terra.

Re: That time of year again; Goals for 2012

5 pts left on UWPCH for Terra. That's the only thing I feel I "must" have. I would like to go to Gateway Nationals in October just to say I've been. But I don't have any particular goals in mind. I really should take a year off shows to build up a savings. :-\ ETA: Oh. Been trying to get U...

Re: Urban Mushing?

I wonder if they use a pad conditioner before running those dogs on concrete? I'd love to do that. I've got scars on my elbow from biking with Terra when she saw a cat, though. Kinda scares me anymore. I ran her next to my car once and that worked out well. Its a lazy option, I know.
