Re: Introducing new dog related questions..

I would keep both dogs separated for a couple weeks at least. Even though they have met before, your dog has bullied the new dog so you need to be very careful about setting up everyone to succeed. If one dog is out, keep the other dog up. Since they already know each other, make it so you only do ...

Introducing new dog related questions..

I was going to post this in the sticky thread, but I was concerned my question wouldn't get seen since the last post in it was dated sept 2010. anyway, I hope I'm not doing anything wrong by making a new thread. I do have a slightly different situation anyways.. ok here it goes! :) My boyfriend is d...

Re: Can cutting the quick cause infection?

you might want to consider buying a Dremel to use instead of clipping them. I've thought about that. Thing is, she already is reactive to vacuum cleaners and other strange "buzzing" or "whirring" noises, so I doubt a dremel would make it any less stressful. Her paws got a little...

Re: Can cutting the quick cause infection?

Great suggestions. Thanks! I'll try those next time. This time I just held off on it. The hiking trip wore down her nails pretty well naturally. :)

Re: Can cutting the quick cause infection?

Just give it 24 hours to dry up and form a solid clot before going for a mud-puddle romp and you should be OK. If you notice limping, do a saltwater soak, and get her to the vet asap. yes, infections can occur, but they are rare. Thank you! Salt water soak actually makes sense. I have a little jar ...

Can cutting the quick cause infection?

I'm probably just being a bit paranoid. I am a little new to dog ownership. I have always just had the vet clip Margot's nails before, because it is less traumatic for both of us. She is quite the wiggle worm. She always fights with all her might against nail clipping. I really don't know how they d...

My dog hates raspberries!

I found out yesterday randomly that Margot absolutely HATES and is fearful of the raspberry noise.. You know when you purse your lips together real tight and blow? At first the reaction was a little funny. Then after a couple more experiments she began to hide behind the recliner and didn't want me ...

Re: Biking with your bully

I was doing some online shopping for some bicycle leash devices when I decided to see what the people on the forum had to say about biking with your dog. I found Red's post to be very informative. I was considering the Walky Dog, but I think I like the idea of Margot being attached to me rather tha...

Re: Biking with your bully

I tried a LOT of messing around with different leash/harness/contraption combinations. I found the best one for me and my dog is simply just a harness on the dog and a leash held in my hand, making sure the loop is not around my wrist. It's just way more comfortable knowing I can just let go of the ...

Re: Pit Bull Proof Toys

Anyone used this toy? Bonnie (not a pit bull) doesn't like rubber toys or tennis balls (much), she LOVES stuffies but she pulls out the stuffing, and loves squeakers. I'm thinking of buying that toy in the video but only if I know it holds up to tough chewers! Nope not very durable at all Margot ri...

Re: Backpacks-Yes its that time of year

I have the EzyDog backpack for Margot. She doesn't seem to mind it at all. I like putting some extra weight in it to wear her out more on walks. I hope to take her on a hiking trip on the Appalachian Trail when she's a bit older. I like the pack a lot. Its not terribly water proof, but it dries out ...

Re: Minneapolis, MN?

That last post was very informative. Thanks! Did you get to read the article about "dangerous dogs" in the City Pages last August? It was right after that mail man got attacked by a Pitbull in North Minneapolis. I thought it was pretty good from what I can remember. Here's a link: http://w...

Re: Leavenworth/Kansas City Question

Well shoot.. I'll have to look into that. I'm not sure if we will be staying on or off base or if there is an option to live off base. I will have to talk to my man about that one. Right now he is doing some veteran's mountaineering course so I won't be able to get a hold of him until Wednesday and ...

Leavenworth/Kansas City Question

I should be moving to Ft. Leavenworth with my significant other for a few months here shortly. I read that Pitbulls are still legal in Leavenworth, but are banned in Kansas City, where I'd imagine wanting to spend a lot of my time. I was wondering how those type of laws work exactly? If I live in Le...
