Re: whining - excited/dominant dog

just an update : he has shown tremendous strides in this short week ( really though, it's me ). i let loose the reigns and went back to studying his behavior. he truly is a unique dog. he has to be able to express himself otherwise it builds up into tense anxiety that he let's flash in short violent...

Re: whining - excited/dominant dog

the only thing I would add is I would consider shorter training sessions and replace that time with exercise, and see where that takes you... not a bad idea. maybe part of the problem is we're always training and that pressure to perform constantly around people is too much. especially since he's s...

Re: whining - excited/dominant dog

oh this "dominant" word. how you've damned this thread. while i appreciate the tidal wave of links... in one article she even admits she has been with a dog who's humping was status related. it's only studies. i'm sharing my study with you. i have helped train multiple other dogs and have ...

Re: whining - excited/dominant dog

nick, we have a 4 mile run together in the morning every day followed by 30-60 minute training session. we follow it up at night with a 1 hour walk then another 30 min training session. the dog has ridiculous stamina, drive and wit. it may be time to start schutzhund. here's a picture of when he was...

Re: whining - excited/dominant dog

i'm going for my CDBC, amie. i believe i asked you for resources about a year ago... thank you once again! well i still feel i'm using the word somewhat appropriately. i've seen many dog fights over door access. it can be considered a resource to a dog that doesn't live outside, right? i also truly ...

Re: whining - excited/dominant dog

ok, i know how sensitive a particular community of dog lovers can be that have all but banned the word, "dominant." seeing as how i don't know where you're coming from, i'll choose my words wisely. he is a "status seeker." he constantly challenges dogs and humans alike to see whe...

Re: whining - excited/dominant dog

not harsh at all. i love it when people speak how they believe. i honestly think you all are right. my expectations are just unrealistic with my boy. he's 3 years old, 100lbs. i should be so grateful already, he's a wonderful dog. i shouldn't fight his instinct, i should navigate it. he needs to be ...

Re: whining - excited/dominant dog

thank you for your input! he's whining an hour before i even get the leash (stretching, showering, eating). and that was just how i did it today. he was out side the kennel because he was quiet for 3 minutes so i let him out. then we both waited by the door for an hour because he wouldn't stop fussing...

whining - excited/dominant dog

hey all, my boy is a very pushy one. i have actually been training to get my professional certificate but i am seriously doubting myself at the moment. this guy will do everything i say and i have generally no problem in any arena but this one. i won't do anything with him if he doesn't show me a ca...

Re: becoming a cdbc, or cpdt.

yeah, it's quite expensive as well, i guess ill have to save a little bit more than i expected. that's no problem because i really would like to do this. let's say i did the academy for dog training first and receive a cpdt.. would i qualify or come close to qualifying at CASI to get my cdbc? and ye...

Re: becoming a cdbc, or cpdt.

to further answer your question ; i would like to train for police work (agitation) or tracking/search and rescue. agility seems like a standard form of practice for training, so i must master devitt's book before anything. not to mention, i know my boy, it's probably all he'll want to do (agility) ...

Re: becoming a cdbc, or cpdt.

What training/experience do you have already? Where would you place your own knowledge/experience? well that's a tough one to answer considering i have no credentials. but i am by no means an amateur. my boy is 95lbs and not neutered and i don't plan on having him either. i'm the only person i know...

becoming a cdbc, or cpdt.

i researched pretty heftily and i must say, it's been daunting. is there anybody with any recommendations on a good school to obtain these certificates? i'm very interested in becoming a dog behaviorist. i'm aware i also have to donate time to local shelters and such as well... but that's the easy p...
