Re: neutering with a heart murmur.

I didn't treat all year-round in the past. Just late April or early May-Oct. Or til the first really good frost. But I'm going to use it year round this year. Same with the flea drops. My vet offers pretty good prices/deals on heart guard. If you buy so many, you get so many free. And with the 6 mon...

Re: neutering with a heart murmur.

Kiwi - that's exactly what we're doing. And thankfully he's never escaped and wandered off to find a gf. He's a pretty chill dog, one of the best house dogs I've ever met. But with all this going on, I've started to wonder if he laid back attitude may be symptoms of the murmur. He doesn't really get...

Re: neutering with a heart murmur.

I doubt all there speuters make it thru fine. Maybe a high percentage. But a 100% outcome is a little hard to believe, murmurs or not. But it does make me feel slightly better. As an update, Loki had his 2nd opinion exam today. He does have a murmur. The vet has given me two options, either xrays or...

Re: neutering with a heart murmur.

That's how I felt about it. He's only 3 years old, hasn't been diagnosed with a murmur before now, and it seems like she should have showed a lil more concern about it. Also, in the article you provided, it stated somewhere that if they're anxious or excited breathing could sound similar to a murmur...

Re: neutering with a heart murmur.

Thanks Kiwi. I'm also going to our regular vet for a second opinion, and having. him tested for parasites. I've read in a few articles they can be caused by anemia due to parasites. He did have hookworms, but it was resolved. Although we don't know if he was infected here at home, or in FL. If he wa...

neutering with a heart murmur.

Yesterday, Loki had pre-opt blood work and exam before his neuter. During the exam, the vet found a heart murmur, she graded it as a 3 and asked if anyone's ever told me he's had a murmur. Sitting there dumb founded, I told her no. So she checked the heart worm test, it was negative. And tried to co...

Re: Puppy tooth decay?

Sorry for the double post...
But wanted to share that Mya's tooth is getting ready to fall out, and her adult tooth is growing in normally behind it.
Also, it was suggested to me to let her chew on a stick of thyme. Has anyone else ever heard of this or tried it? I'll be looking into it.

Re: Pre- anesthesia blood work

While I do agree they should have been explained better to me, I didn't exactly ask either. Originally I was just going to do the heart worm blood test, but he does have a history of hookworms and allergies and I want to be 100% sure he's gonna be ok. Also, the clinic I got the estimate from isn't o...

Pre- anesthesia blood work

I'm in the process of setting up appointments to get one of the dogs fixed. I stopped in at the vet's office to get an estimate and ask about their requirements and such. They require pre-anesthesia blood work. The lady wrote down what the blood tests were, but I didn't ask what they were for exactl...

Re: Puppy tooth decay?

Sorry for the delay, been a little busy.. She's 6 months old. After closer inspection, the tip IS chipped. But she still shows no signs of pain. I called her vet and she told me to keep an eye on it. As long as there's no swelling, redness or signs of an abscess, she should be ok and it'll fall out ...

Puppy tooth decay?

I've routinely checked the dogs' teeth since day one. Last time I checked Mya's teeth they looked normal, nothing loose or broken. Its been almost 2 weeks since I last checked. Today I checked her teeth and the lower "eye tooth" is a grayish brown color. Its a puppy tooth as she hasn't los...

Re: "Split Personalities"?

Thanks Amie. The drive to Baltimore isn't out of the question, but i'd like to look into both options equally. See which is best for Loki. I kind of feel as if I let him down by leaving him with someone who could have possibly did something to harm him and may have scarred him for life. Unfortunatel...

Re: FLYING DOGS

I actually had questions about the type of crate that was allowed and all the regulations for flying a pet. I came across this very useful site. http://www.dryfur.com/ They sell everything you need and specify what crates are approved, have check lists, an article about snub nosed breeds (bull dogs ...

Re: "Split Personalities"?

I'm in the Frederick County MD area. And I actually have an update. It's been about a month since we started working on his issues, and its becoming more obvious that his fear is based towards men. We've been more social around the neighborhood. Women and especially children can come up to him with ...
