Re: TICK EMERGENCY!!!

For the amount of ticks described, better to use the chemicals to remove them quickly. It would take a long time to remove that many ticks safely. Very stressful for the dog.

Re: Am Veterinary Med Assn ruling against Raw Pet Foods

I will say, I've seen a ton of raw feeders allege that dogs can't get salmonella. People who are at least presenting themselves as being knowledgeable. So I'd have to agree, that there is a lot of information that isn't as well known as it should be. Not saying this means that the AVMA should take t...

Re: Kidney Infection

I'm feeding the grain-free from Costco, which would not be everybody's choice due to the Diamond recalls, but it fits my budget, and my dogs do well on it. I'm on the west coast, so the food I buy is almost certainly from the California plant, not the one that's had the recalls. Your girl might well...

Re: Kidney Infection

My Tess had a really serious kidney infection a couple years ago. Hospitalized for 3 days, she was a really sick little girl. She bounced back okay, but while her kidney values recovered to normal, I think she may have some residual kidney damage. I eventually found that I had to switch her to a low...

Re: Dog Aggression Question

Your dog isn't aggressive, he's afraid. The best confidence builder for him would be for you to not allow these situations to occur. He needs to know that you will protect him. You need to get between him and dogs that frighten him, and not allow the other dogs to approach. If he can trust you to pr...

Re: **Diamond Naturals dog food recall**

Its Salmonella... its not the end of the world. At least they caught it, most small brands don't even have the testing abilities to pick up on something like this. That's been my opinion of this... it's salmonella, it's not that hazardous to dogs (yes, they can get it, it doesn't generally make the...

Re: What it looks like when they remove a nail

The nail on Pirate's dewclaw was completely gone, and it grew back normally. The vet told me the options were a) it might grow back normal. b) grow back funky, but not be a problem; or c) grow back funky, and cause pain, so it would have to be removed. Pirate went for option a.

Re: What it looks like when they remove a nail

Pi did this to himself, when he broke his dew claw, and subsequently ripped it off and ate it. The vet said that because it was open to the bone, antibiotics were important.

Re: I am disappointed in the Maryland Courts

i'm a maryland landlord, and i can say with certainty that this would be my biggest fear (not a pit bull biting someone, but a law being created that explicitly makes me liable for a tenants dog if it bites someone because i happened to know that the dog was a pit bull.) not cool. Well that's exact...

Yep. It will make it impossible to rent with a pit bull. This decision MUST be fought.

Re: Martin earned his CD

I didn't use a clicker with Elmo (or with Tully, who I did more shaping with), I used a marker word. The hold was the part of the retrieve that Elmo didn't get, I like the technique that Lana Mitchell describes because you basically get to bypass teaching the hold. The dog is being shaped to be in f...
