This is one thing that confuses me. I haven't read the BARF 101 thread, or if I did it has been a while and I don't remember the answer from that, so feel free to body-slam me if this is a dumb question: Why feed fruits and vegetables to a dog on a raw diet? I mean, they're carnivores, not omnivores...

What does a "larger than 2 inch leather collar", for example, have to do with that? To me it is a precusor to BSL, IMO. It doesn't matter anyway because I just found out they passed the bill  It must be something to do with " agitation collars "? I've often wondered what th...

I'm not expert at dogfood, but I looked at the healthypetnet.com link you posted, dug down to the "Life's Abundance" info. http://www.healthypetnet.com/HealthyPetNet/Products/LifesAbundance/LifesAbundanceDog.aspx?realname=40066405 It looks promising, to my untutored eye: Made by APHIS, &qu...

Hiya Kevin, welcome! Sorry about your arm; glad it healed. Personally, I'm of mixed mind about insurance. I guess it raises the bar to ownership -- i.e., it might weed out some idiot owners. And if, gods forbid, one of my dogs somehow seriously attacked a person (kind of inconceivable... Rufus would...

As far as I can tell, there is no one commercial food that is "best" for all dogs. Some dogs do better with one thing; other dogs do better with something else. Good luck finding the best for your pup! This may help: http://www.dogfoodproject.com/ Also, your pup is too young to be separate...

Burlington is a little far for me to drive to see the vet, but Welcome anyway! (Warning -- it takes a bit to adjust to the latitude -- 19 hours of sun in the summer, 5 hours in winter... that's if it's not cloudy... but overall, it's really great here!) Any chance that, in your chosen profession, yo...

[...] Also, be sure NOT to correct her growling. Correct the behavior but don't discourage her from growling. I know someone who did that and not instead of giving a warning (growling) the dog simply lunges and goes right for it (DA now HA). So, just keep that in mind too. Good luck! In this case, ...

As far as I could see, these laws were fine -- especially with the exemptions for breed improvers, breed fanciers, and hobby breeders. If anything, I'd worry that the $1000 fine for misrepresentation is not enough of a deterrent -- make it a $10,000 fine.

Thanks for the feedback, Noriko... Edgewood Vet Clinic doesn't show up on the American Animal Hospital Association list (via Healthy Pet, so it's not my first choice; but it's good to know you had a non-negative experience there.

Pancreatitis from fatty meals -- I thought the danger was cooked fat. Uncooked fat is also dangerous?

What's a reasonable rule-of-thumb range of fat to meat ratio to avoid pancreatitis?
