Re: HYPER ISSUE

Come home and get her riled up on purpose... :fire: (that's what I do) My girls go nuts when I get home, and I will admit I totally encourage it. I also use the "omg I am so freakin happy to see you I just can't possibly contain myself" moments to work on their "in drive" obedien...

BDD's newest creation... dog sport harness

I just have to post about my new BDD harness, because I love it! When I asked Missy to create this harness for me and Vi, I knew it would turn out nice, but Missy really out did herself. It's better than I could have hoped for. There have been some small changes since this prototype design to make i...

Re: Hello from Wisconsin!!

Congrats on the new addition! Check out ukcdogs.com or akc.org for more info on registering an altered (spayed/neutered) dog so you can compete in dog sports! The UKC site also has some good info on the sports themselves. The best way to get involved is to attend a show or trial by you as a spectato...

Re: demodex

Depends on the severity and treatment type.

Keep in mind, in times of high stress or illness the symptoms of demodex can reoccur. Demodex is genetic, and while some dogs have no other problems, some may have other immuno-deficiency disorders. It's not something to panic over, just be aware of it.

Re: OFFICIAL ear cropping/tail docking debate thread

Actually.... All 3 major kennel clubs (AKC, UKC, ADBA) state: UKC- EARS - Ears are high set and may be natural or cropped without preference. Prick or flat, wide ears are not desired. AKC- Ears - Cropped or uncropped, the latter preferred. Uncropped ears should be short and held rose or half prick. ...

Re: Questions about ACE and other Meds for my Foster

Tramadol and Rimadyl are safe to give together, but they usually work better staggered. I personally used benadryl to sedate Vi after her spay. If you do use ACE, just be aware of the side effects. Some side effects include, lowering inhibitions and potentially change the dog's personality (short te...

Re: The nitty gritty on Boogie

Wouldn't let me edit... I'm apparently too slow. If you come home and you find a chewed up shoe, there isn't anything you can do about it. Just chalk it up to an expensive lesson learned to put you shoes away. You can't do anything about the behavior after the fact, it has to be corrected while it i...

Re: The nitty gritty on Boogie

If you don't have a clicker it's no problem. I never could get the timing down to use one effectively myself, I use a marker word instead. Using a marker word is basically the same thing, and has to be "loaded" (taught word=reward) the same way. I use a simple "Yes". For your que...

Re: HELLO! New to the forum and seeking advice.

Go through the above listed links, and slow down with him. My advice right now would be to have him on a tie out away from the kids (since you want him out with you all) while they are playing until he learns that kids are loud and move quickly, and remove him from the yard if you think he is gettin...

Re: May have overpaid for a pup- I need suggestions.

Once you do the rest of the intro and have full access, a few of us here are fairly active in the show community. I may not have been very active in UKC this year (been doing other venues), but the "players" are the same and I still keep up with everyone. You can PM me (or any of the other...

Re: smelly ears. dried up blood?

Its Allergy season!!! Underlying inflammation allows the natural flora to show up. If its severe (it sounds like it is), get to the vet ASAP and get some anti-fungal medications and a topical steroid. A large number of infections that look yeasty will also have bacterial overgrowth and require anti...

Re: Flexi Leads...whats soo bad about em?

I don't like Flexi's because I find them awkward to hold. I much prefer my 4' plain leather lead or my 4' with a "traffic handle". If I want more of a lead, I use one of my long lines. There are also way too many stories of people losing fingers or hands from Flexi leads. Also, if the hand...

Re: How do you feel about the Kong Harness?

I got my BDD harness in today and I LOVE it! I would absolutely recommend one for tracking and/or dog sport. As a bonus, you can order one in whatever color/s you want. I choose red with black because that is Vi's "color" and all of her equipment is in that combination. Here is a link to m...

Re: uses bed as a toy

Destuffing things is a canine art form. I would suggest teaching a simple transference, the same as you would with other inappropriate objects, such as shoes. Go to the dollar store and pick up a bunch of stuffed toys he is allowed to shred. Just make sure he doesn't ingest any stuffing (from anythi...
