Gentle collar for a senstive neck

Postby Deuce » Thu Oct 10, 2013 11:36 am

Crash has a really sensitive neck and his collars tend to rub his fur off and give him a little rash. We have been using both non padded and padded collars from Bulldog Supply. They are really great collars but I am wondering if somebody has a suggestion for a collar that may be more gentle. I also want to make sure it is strong because when he goes outside he is on a cable and sometimes a rabbit chase is just too much for him to resist! I have also thought about just leaving his collar off unless we go on a walk or when he wants to go outside but he is in and out all day long and it would become a hassle.

Would a leather collar be a little less irritating?

Have you ever tried Biothane?

A member here makes them

most Gundog supply sites sell them, I've seen them in Sportsman's Warehouse.

A company called Weaver makes a very nice leather collar with a deerskin lining. Those are good strong buckle collars and the lining makes it very soft on the dog's neck.

I always like using a leather collar as it is a natural material. A deerskin lining is very nice and would be non irritating on a sensitive neck.

Sometimes you can score a good leather, skin-lined collar at a retail joint. Both of my dogs are wearing 1/2" leather lined with deerskin, and I got them at Petsmart on clearance. I've gotten others similar to that at feed stores and and local retail chains (like Souther Agriculture in Tulsa, OK). Just keep your eyes peeled if you're going shopping.
