Tucker tried lure coursing today ...

Postby BabyReba » Sun Sep 04, 2011 1:46 pm

The place we take Doc to swim sometimes has a new lure-coursing setup, and they had a fun run day today, so I brought Tucker.

He was so clueless. He was excited to be let off leash and he was psyched to run, but he had no idea that he was supposed to be chasing a bag. He's so people oriented he didn't even notice it during his first run and ran full-tilt toward the person operating the lure at the end of the field. Then the bag caught up to HIM and he was so startled that he just stopped and watched it for a second before he went after it.

Second run, we paired him with a more experienced dog, and he got it ... at first, he was chasing the dog, then he realized that dog was chasing something, and he finally went for the bag and made it to the end of the course.

Third run, the bag took a hard left and as soon as it was out of sight, it was out of Tucker's mind and he ran off in another direction and found the water tub and mucked around in it til I went and retrieved him.

It was a rather comical day. Wish I had someone with me to videotape! lol

Doglando, in East Orlando. They have a dog "playcare" facility, an above-ground pool, they do dock diving classes and now they have the lure-coursing. It's a fun facility!

That is so awesome. The descriptions work almost as well as pictures. lol I wish we had lure coursing somewhere near here. I'm hoping to find a place for us to try it when we get back to Tulsa. :)

Poor Tucker. lol I'm told that some dogs take a while to get the hang of it, though mine have always been into it immediately. Pi isn't the best lure courser, though, he tends to try and cut it off instead of following. Smart, but not desirable. I'm thinking I'll probably take Tess to an AKC CAT next month, and let her course for a title, but probably not Pirate.
