licking...everything.

Postby morganmariah » Tue Dec 03, 2013 12:52 pm

Luna has decided that it is her personal mission in life to lick everything. she doesn't lick constantly in one place, she was just licking the wall and came over to give the table leg a lick. she's not really what I would call obsessive about it because she doesn't keep licking, just one or two wipes and she's done. however, she does it to everything. the wall and the table are fine, maybe there was a spill or a smuge from something that smelled tasty. she also licks my camera, my laptop, my notepad, my pen, my socks, and anything else she can reach.

why?? and how would one go about training a dog not to lick everything (she has a kong, but she doesn't like it as a lick toy so much as a toss it in the air 30' over her head toy)

Is she an anxious dog?

not usually, but lately she's been barking any time someone walks by the window in a hood. it's like 20 degrees out, so that's every 10 minutes or so. she's fine if i'm wearing a hood, but seems to think if hoods are outside, and not on me or my bf, they're monsters.

It could be anxiety, or it could be a sensory thing (she needs to "taste" things to explore). That would be my two uneducated guesses. I would just redirect and reward her for doing something less irritating.

Have you mentioned this to your vet?
